Chelsea’s owner Todd Boehly was rumored to be about to seal an important investment really favorable for the Blues in the next few weeks, as the CEO of the Baseball club Los Angeles Dodgers, who has completed several important operations since he joined Chelsea in 2022, could buy an important Argentine club as he already did when completed the purchase of RC Strasbourg in the last few years.
In this sense, according to the journalist Felix Johnston, Boehly would be ready to expand his businesses in the world by buying an Argentine club to add him to his milti-clubs society Blue Co. by profiting the approval of a new law by the new Argentine President Javier Milei, which opens the possibility of the sale of Argentine clubs to private owners.
In this respect, it would be worth remembering that Javier Milei recently presented a Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) of 366 articles that implies a profound deregulation of the economy, he proposes a “shock stabilization plan”, repeals multiple laws and regulations and aims to advance in the privatization of public companies, it emerged that an important European club would be interested in purchasing an Argentine entity. Among the 30 measures that Milei listed in his speech, he included the one that allows clubs to become Sports Joint Stock Companies.
Following Felix Johnston’s sources, Chelsea could profit from this new regulation to create their own Sports Joint Stock Company in Argentine by buying a top Argentine club, with Boca Juniors heading a list of six potential clubs which the Blues would be evaluating to buy. After the Xeneizes, the list follows with five historic clubs such as Racing, Estudiantes, Newell’s Old Boys, Banfield and Lanus. “There haven’t been direct conversations with the clubs yet, but Chelsea are aware of the public reaction against the decree and respects the culture of club owned by fans”, clarified Johnston in his information, adding that the main goal of Chelsea in case of completing the transaction would be to take the new club to its maximum competitiveness and use it as an exploration center in Argentina, buying South American talents and developing them there before moving them to Europe.
