There are times in a player's life when he has to make a major career decision. Sometimes it goes well and other times he has to understand that the consequences of his actions can be very costly. A Liverpool player who had everything to be at the top in recent years chose fame and fortune instead of hard work and being an idol at Anfield.

Philippe Coutinho made his debut in 2009 with Vasco da Gama in Brazil. At just 17 he averaged 43 appearances with 5 goals scored and 5 assists. That earned him to be observed by Inter Milan who bought him in the 2010 season and took him to European lands. Despite a short spell with the Italian side Liverpool gave him conditions to be able to be in the Premier League and signed him immediately for €13 million.

It was at Anfield where the talented midfielder managed to exploit all his qualities. In six seasons he managed to play 201 games with 54 goals and 43 assists, but he failed to win any major title and always remained on the edge of the circumstances, even with the arrival of Jürgen Klopp, who already had a sporting plan to lead the Reds to glory.

But it all vanished when the money came in from FC Barcelona, who paid an incredible €135 million for the attacker, which was undoubtedly one of the most expensive in history between Spain and England. But fell apart when he was a total failure and in 37 games he only managed 11 goals and 9 assists, in addition to the fact that he could never fit into a system where Lionel Messi was on the pitch and had to go on loan to Bayern Munich.

What happened to the promise of Liverpool?

He had a small redemption at Bayern Munich where he became UEFA Champions League champion in the 2019-20 season, even scoring against the blaugrana team in the famous 8-0 drubbing. He returned to the Premier League with Aston Vila where he has not had regularity and now the Arab League is tempting him with a juicy contract to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo. Although many of his Liverpool teammates and even Jürgen Klopp himself still miss his runs at Anfield where he showed great promise, but now it has all ended in sadness.
