Manchester United got a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Emirates Stadium on the fourth day of the 2023/2024 Premier League season, where they played a battled game that they could win at the last minutes with a Garnacho goal not conceded by the referee that allowed Arsenal to score clear chances in the extra time to defeat the Red Devils.

Arsenal entirely dominated the game from the start, with a low block of pressure set by Mikel Arteta to create problems for Andre Onana in the build up play for Manchester United, which clearly created trouble to the visitors, who struggled to have the ball possession in the Emirates and connecting with the attack.

Despite being dominated, Manchester United opened the score with a goal by Marcus Rashford at the sss minute after receiving a pass through by Christian Eriksen following a Havertz mistake in the midfield. The United’s happiness though lasted very little, since only a minute later Odegaard scored the equalizer for Arsenal.

In the second half, there was controversy around a possible penalty on Kai Havertz, that the referee did not concede for Arsenal. Manchester United added another injury to the list and Lisandro Martinez had to leave suffering physical discomfort, being replaced by Harry Maguire, who returned to play with the Red Devils. Alongside Maguire, entered the most expected player at United, and Rasmus Hojlund made his debut with the Mancunian team at the 66th minute and impressed the fans.

Despite Hojlund’s brilliance, Arsenal won the game in the extra time

The Danish striker combined in the middle to create the biggest goal chance for his team at the 86th, with an excellent assist by Casemiro that Garnacho took to score in the one-to-one against Ramsdale, but the referee did not concede the goal as the Argentine was in offside. However, Arsenal got their chances to defeat the Red Devils, with a sensational volley by Rice at the 69th and Gabriel Jesus setting the 3-1 by finishing a efficient counter attack at the 101st minute.
