Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola spoke on the Erling Haaland performance against Bournemouth in the Etihad Stadium on the eleventh day of the 2023/2024 Premier League season, where the Norwegian striker completed a poor game where he remained scoreless despite his team defeated the Cherries with a contundent 6-1 result.
In this sense, it would be worth mentioning that Pep Guardiola sent the player to the bench in the halftime of the game, replacing him by Phil Foden, who had a great influence in the second half of the Citizen, as Haaland had had some goal occasions that he failed to materialize.
The Norwegian giant had missed a clear goal chance at the 22nd minute of the game, with a crossed ball to the far post that the 23-year-old striker headed imprecisely, hitting the ball on the post while the fans could not believe what they were watching from their top striker. Haaland missed controls, missed finishes, and lacked precision in his actions, after which Guardiola sent him to the bench.
However, the Catalan coach claimed that his decision had been caused by a very different reason, as he revealed that the Norwegian striker was injured and he preferred to give him a break. “He had a twist in the ankle. We didn't want to take risks with him, he didn't feel comfortable. He'll be back maybe Tuesday, but maybe next Sunday”, revealed Guardiola, whose words could explain the unusual performance the Norwegian completed against Bournemouth.
