The result hide some lack of ball control at Manchester City

Manchester City kicked off his 2023/2024 with an impressive 3-0 victory against FC Burnley in the Turf Moor stadium with a double scored by Haaland and a goal by Rodri to secure the first three points for the Citizen in the race to reconquer the Premier League title this season, in which Pep Guardiola could be requested by the fans to at least equalize the results obtained last season.

The Citizen led the game from the 3rd minute, thanks to a goal scored by Haaland with a left footed shot in the box after receiving head service by Rodri. With his goal, the Norwegian striker became the first Manchester City in history to score the first goal of a Premier League season and the third Norwegian player to do it after Stig Inge Bjornebye and Adama Diamonde.

At the 22nd minute, City would receive bad news, since Kevin De Bruyne had to exit from the pitch due to a hamstring injury, which worried everyone at the Citizen’s side. The happiness for them would arrive a few minutes after, since despite Vincent Kompany's team recovering well from the first goal, Haaland would return to score in the 36th minute, becoming the first player in Premier League history to score a double in the first league game.

Pep Guardiola regretted the lack of control in some periods of the game

The final goal would come in the 76th minute with a right-footed shot from the box after a rebound of Akanji, and the tranquility gotten by the Citizen allowed Guardiola to give some minutes to Josko Gvardiol, who made his debut with the Citizen, Palmer and McAtee. Pep Guardiola reacted to the victory in the after game press conference, regretting the team’s struggle in some periods of the game but really happy for the victory . "We started well. We found a goal, we struggled a bit after. We gave away balls, our passes created problems but after a while we played much, much better…", said Guardiola.
