Steven Gerrard has been on the spotlight last months due to his career as a coach, as the former English captain rejected a huge offer from Al Ahli to coach at the Saudi Pro League. The 43-year-old English coach said no to the possibility of joining the Saudi business, in which many Premier League players have already come in.

Al Ahli is one of the most powerful teams in the Saudi championship, with Al Nassr, Al Hilal and Al Ittihad, teams which have have already signed elite players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly, Karim Benzema or N’Golo Kante. Al Ahli has been the last team joining the race, as they signed Edouard Mendy.

In terms of coaches, Saudi teams have also decided to have world class managers. Currently, the ex Wolverhampton coach Nuno Espirito Santo coaches Al Ittihad and the ex River Plate coach Ramon Diaz is coaching Al Hilal, while Al Nassr recently signed the Botafogo the Portuguese coach Luis Castro, recommended by their star Cristiano Ronaldo.

In this sense, Al Hilal thought about the Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to be their coach but he decided to reject an offer of £12 million a year, so the South African Pitso Mosimane will be the Al Ahli coach at the moment .

The team could be a ‘Saudi Liverpool’

The Gerrard decision was very controversial for the media, as at the moment nobody has been able to reject the Saudi million. In fact, it hasn’t been the first time the Al Alhi team had contacted Liverpool legends for their project, as Bobby Firmino seems to be close to sign for the Saudi team. There, Bobby could join another potential Al Ahli player, with whom he could play at Liverpool, as Sadio Mane, another Red legend is also a target for Al Ahli.
