The Saudi championship appears as one of the main attractions in the football world this season, as many stars are on the radar of the main Arabian clubs, who are getting sharp to the competition, where they will be willing to show their economic and sportive power to their opponents through squads with as many expensive and iconic stars as possible for their budget.
This is the main reason why after Al Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United last season, their classic rival Al Hilal is looking for big stars as the Saudi current champions Al-Ittihad has already improved its squad with the arrivals of Benzema and N’Golo Kante to keep its consistency at the top of the league.
The last name emerging as a possible arrival to the league has been the 32-year-old Algerian player Riyad Mahrez, linked with Al Hilal, who has already signed Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton and Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea. That's the way how Al Hilal, the Al Nassr’s neighbor team in the city of Riyadh, is getting ready to dominate the Riyadh’ Derby against Cristiano's team, where Al-Hilal has won 59 times, lost 48 times, and 41 games have ended in a draw.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr, is reported to earn more than €200 (£176.5m) per year, and it’s considered the main star of the team, which historically has been one step behind Al Hilal, who now also compete in terms of transfers. According to The Daily Mail, Mahrez, whose contract at the Etihad expires in 2025, will be offered £43 million-a-year plus bonuses for a two-year deal, an offer five times bigger than the £8.5m-a-year extension he signed at City last summer but drastically lower than the huge amount that Cristiano gets in Al Nassr.
