Matt Turner will fight for a leading role at Arsenal after having a great summer at the Gold Cup, where the player is still competing to take his country to conquer the trophy. Under Mikel Arteta’s management at Arsenal, he has the second goalkeeper role, but he is making merits enough to make Arteta consider his presence in the Gunners’ line up.

In that sense, the American goalkeeper shone in a great game against Canada in the Gold Cup quarter finals. Turner was crucial in the 2-2 draw against the Canadian team, who fought until the end for the victory against their neighbors. In the relegation time, Turner shone again keeping the draw for his teammates, and he became national hero in the penalty-kick shootout.

Matt Turner made two saves during the penalty-kick shootout to help the US national team defeat Canada at FC Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium and lead his country to advance to the Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals after the final 3-2, which got the American fans excited with his new idol.

He will try to convince Arteta of his quality at Arsenal

The Gunners goalkeeper opened up on the secret behind his achievement, and he assured that a big part of his performance comes as a result of preparation. "I have seen a lot of the penalties you saw in my preparation.  I just trusted my instincts, really, and typically when I do that, I find myself having a lot more success", explained Turner.

The player will join his Arsenal teammates in the next few weeks, after some days of vacation when the Gold Cup finishes. There, at the pitch and in front of Arteta, he will try to be a hero again, this time to earn a place in the Arsenal line up.
