Tottenham got their second defeat in a row in the Premier League and after being defeated last week in their home game against Chelsea this week were defeated again, this time against Wolverhampton in the Molineux Stadium on the twelfth day of the 2023/2024 Premier League season, in a game where they had the ball possession but struggled to seal their dominance in the last meters in their first games without the English playmaker James Maddison.
The visitors opened the scoring very early with a goal by Brennan Johnson at the 3th minute after a great combination in the rival box, with Pedro Porro sending an assist to the Welsh striker that Johnson finished brilliantly inside the box in front of the rival goalkeeper. The fulgurant start of the Spurs was slowing down after Wolverhampton gained presence on the field, but the locals were inefficient in the last meters.
The second half followed the same path developed during the last minutes of the first one. The locals arrived more and more dangerously to the goal defended by Guillermo Vicario without succeeding, while Tottenham kept the ball possession without harming Wolverhampton, and they would end paying for it.
In the last minutes of the game, Gary O’ Neill gave entry to the Spanish winger Pablo Sarabia, and his importance on the game was pivotal for Wolves, who initiated great counter attacks that put Tottenham on the ropes. In one of them, the locals saw their insistence awarded with the equalizing goal, scored by Sarabia himself at the 91st minute. However, the best for the Spanish winger was still to come, as he disarmed the advanced defense set by Postecoglou on the right wing and sent an assist to Mario Lemina, who inside the box scored the winning goal for Wolverhampton, while Tottenham’s dream seems to be disappearing.
